a re-introduction
At the end of April in 2021, I pinned a tweet announcing Meanderings. The rebrand of a one-post newsletter I attempted six months prior. I know I’m not alone in grappling with the tumultuous nature of these times. It isn’t until now, standing at the precipice of motherhood writing these words at 5 am at my kitchen table that I finally am able to bring Meanderings into fruition.
To start, there are some fundamental truths that I hold to be true and you will see these themes woven intermittently throughout my work.
We are capable of change; with the right resources and motivation, we can end generational trauma and elevate humanity.
The arts and the diversification of ideas are the gateway to innovation and thus the key to critical thinking.
Muses appear in various forms… for me, writing has always been a spigot from which I draw. From Live Journal to Tumblr to my blog Lu Curates. The urge to write has always pulled at me. I started Lu Curates in 2014 on the belief that “life is how you curate it.” In essence are the curators of our own existence.
However, as a product of my times, the catchphrase “life is how we curate it,” doesn’t quite capture the nuance of growth, the scars of hard work and well-intentioned failures that happen along the way. As we sit amongst the rise of social media and the memeification of the human experience; the social landscape feels as if it has lost the importance of deep contemplation, analysis, value identification, and the need to feel empathy in order to truly pursue one’s purpose.
So here we are with Meanderings, a newsletter to take the shape of a blog, a series of pieces designed to inform, and spark inspiration. First, I’m going to walk you through some very real and sometimes even heartbreaking lived experiences while sharing with you the tools I learned along the way to persevere. There will be a sprinkling of lifestyle pieces to remind us it’s ok to take a break and simply find joy.
And like life itself, even with the most direct intention, we will still find ourselves meandering along the path unaware of what exists beyond the next bend. It isn’t until we’ve climbed the mountain that we can truly see how far we’ve come with a clear vision of what now lays behind us. I invite you to meander along with me.
Innovation begins with a deep understanding of intersectional nuance. I started my journey with the goal of ending generational trauma within my own family. I hope that with every idea and piece of writing that is birthed from this newsletter that others too can find healing in their journey as I have. As the author of meanderings, I promise to be honest and open to new ideas, and I encourage you to do the same.
Growth certainly is not easy but like a garden, the seeds we plant today will grow as long as we always return to our end goal, values, and never lose sight of supporting our community.
In gratitude,
Lu
